First Parent & Guardian University Event a Success!
Last night, Boonton High School hosted a Parent & Guardian University event. It was truly a great success. Mr. Dan Guido, a Dean at Boonton High School, presented a workshop to parents and guardians in order to familiarize all participants with the newly implemented Naviance Program. Mr. Guido explained why the High School chose Naviance, displayed each of the features of the powerful program, and gave participants the opportunity to ask questions. As those who attended were leaving the workshop, many positive comments were shared. Mr. Richard Hoffman, a parent of one of our high school students said, "Bringing Naviance to Boonton High School was a great idea." Naviance will assist students with setting academic and future goals, creating a resume of accomplishments and activities, and seeking out scholarships and applying for colleges and universities. The High School Guidance Department is working with all students in order to get them registered. Our goal is to have 100% parental registration rates as well.

Parent & Guardian University
This school year, I am proud to introduce our new Parent & Guardian University. This unique program provides parents with computer lab access, training sessions, and workshops. The first P&G University Program will be on Monday evening, September 19th at 6:45 p.m. in Room 130 at Boonton High School. This session, "Navigating Through Naviance", is designed for parents or guardians of our high school students to learn more about the benefits of Naviance. Naviance is a web-based program that serves as an individualized portal for each student in order to archive data, activities, grades, clubs, and athletics. Naviance even serves as a resource for learning about universities and careers that best fit a student's future path. Naviance also warehouses scholarship information and allows students to complete the Common Application for college directly through the web site.
At the same time that the P&G University Program is going on, there will also be open computer lab time for parents and guardians in Room 130 at Boonton High School 6:45 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. We look forward to seeing parents take advantage of these opportunities.

Parent Involvement is Key to a Child's Success
Involvement in your child's education is so important to his or her success in the classroom. Visiting the schools, helping with homework, and encouraging effort and a commitment to academics will greatly enhance your child's performance in school. Staff members in the Boonton School District not only invite you to become involvement, but also welcome it. Tonight is our Middle School Back-to-School Night at 7:00 p.m. If you have a child in the Middle School, please be sure to attend this informative event. On Thursday, September 15th, the John Hill School will be hosting Back-to-School Night also at 7:00 p.m. Our School Street School Back-to-School Night will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21st and Boonton High School's Back-to-School Night will be hosted at the same time on Wednesday, October 19th. Attending these functions is the first step to establishing a great, collaborative relationship!

Anxiously Waiting for Students to Arrive
Most students go to sleep the night before the first day of school thinking about their schedule, which friends will be in their classes, what their report cards will reflect, and what activities to participate in. Well, staff members do the same thing. The night before the first day of staff members fall asleep thinking about how they will positively affect each and every one of their students and all of the great things they hope to achieve in the upcoming year. It's really not very different. The excitement of a new school year exists for all stakeholders. Before the first bell rings tomorrow, I want to wish Boonton students, parents and guardians, and staff members a healthy and memorable school year.
